I really enjoy Mark Ryden's color palette. The color is very neutral, but not muddy.
I was hoping to see one of his paintings in person at the Roq La Rue 10th Anniversary show, but unfortunately only a small drawing of his was included. I also just learned that he had a solo exhibit at the Frye in 2003 or 2004 - I imagine it was incredible!

I had the good fortune of attending Mr Ryden's premier night at the Frye in Seattle. He was very accessible- actually managed to have some words with him. I advance ordered a few copies of the exhibit program which he was kind enough to sign- you may be able to get an out of print copy on Ebay- its called "Wondertoonel". Also there was a tiny book available for the event simply titled "Blood". Both contain some incredible images.
